Dear Ursinus Community,
As we begin the fall semester on this first day of classes, I'm thrilled to greet you with excitement and optimism for the year ahead. I hope you enjoyed your summer and had a chance to recharge. But now it's time to innovate, learn, experience, and inspire!
On behalf of all faculty, staff, and returning students, I extend a warm welcome to the 440 new students—including transfer students—
who are beginning their Ursinus journey
. I could feel your enthusiasm last week, and I know that will carry forward throughout the year.
Meanwhile, this summer was a busy one on campus and beyond! I'm impressed by the vast array of internships, research experiences (including those of our Summer Fellows), and study abroad opportunities of our returning students. They will serve you well as you continue your undergraduate journey and prepare for your future careers.
The year ahead is marked by renewed strength and purpose and as you settle in, you'll notice some exciting new changes around campus. Our upgraded network adds nearly 200 new access points throughout campus to improve coverage and service; we're in the process of renovating Lower Wismer for a more modern and comfortable dining atmosphere; you'll notice improvements to our athletic facilities; and we're adding mobile and kiosk ordering through GrubHub, as well as “Just Walk Out” technology in Lower Wismer marketplace for added convenience and accessibility.
Be on the lookout for details about these new features and more from individual departments.
We are making meaningful progress to ensure Ursinus thrives for generations to come. As I mentioned to faculty and staff during last week's State of the College and Community Conference, we are poised to transform Ursinus through applied, professional, and experiential opportunities. I'm looking forward to working with everyone on campus to shape priorities that will help our students thrive personally and professionally.
Students, as you step into this new year, remember that opportunity begins right here. Take advantage of all the resources, support, and experiences that Ursinus offers. Engage with your classes, explore new interests, and challenge yourself to grow both academically and personally. Be open to the possible! you will gain the knowledge, skills, and experiences you need to lead, to explore, and to innovate.
See you around campus! Go Bears!
Sincerely,
President Robyn Hannigan
