In Memoriam

During the 2022-23 academic year, the Ursinus College campus community experienced the heartbreaking loss of a faculty member, two current students, and a former student. Together, we—along with so many caring members of our extended community—share in this grief and express our deepest sympathies to their family and friends for their unimaginable loss.

 1950s

  • Ernest M. Tassoni ’50 reports that he’s “still brisk” and “enjoying life.”

  • Richard B. Millham ’56 reports that he’s still working (but not too hard) in the insurance business that he established 45 years ago, which is now owned by his son, Rick.

 1960s

  • Craig Zaehring ’63 published the first edition of his book, Living Well Together When We Don’t Agree About God (Or Much Else), in paperback. A kindle edition is expected this year.

  • Jack Addicks ’69 retired in 2020 as founder and president of Keystone Consulting Associates.

  • Jerry Gorman ’65 has retired from practicing admiralty and maritime law in San Diego, Calif. He lives in Oceanside, Calif., with his wife, Mary.

  • Rickie Lee Sands ’68 is now a VFW District 16 trustee, member of VFW Military Order of the Cootie national honor degree membership, toured Europe with the American Music Abroad program in July, and recently completed 44 years in Boy Scout firearms training.

 1970s

  • Barbara Ann (Vincent) Ettinger ’78 earned her Doctor of Ministry with distinction from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2024. She studied the connection between coaching and clergy wellbeing as part of her doctorate in ministry leader formation. Her doctoral project created an internal coaching network that now serves her entire denomination.

  • Ursinus alumni from the 60s through the 90s attended a holiday reception in conjunction with the Voices of Ursinus holiday concert.   • Jan Smith ’74 retired from Firstrust Bank in March after a 15-year career. She is still in touch with Jill Marsteller ’78, Dave Spitko ’75, and Drew Nagele ’76. “Ursinus friends are the best!”

  • John Hadley ’74 partially retired after more than 40 years of battery R&D engineering management for Energizer/Rayovac. He now serves as chair of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee #35 on battery standards for Europe. He has three children and six grandchildren.

 1980s

  • Ron Matthew ’89 hosted a group of Ursinus alumni at his home in May 2024, featuring a talk with Ursinus College Director of Wrestling Joe Jamison.

  • Gary McAneney ’87 hosted a reunion of 50 football and Alpha Phi Epsilon alumni at the Trappe Tavern in February.

  • Kathy Rocklein Sontag ’89 was nominated for a 2023 Emmy award for Outstanding Nonfiction or Reality Series as executive producer for The Last of Us: Inside the Episode.

  • Leo McCormick ’83, P’12, P’16 and Christine McCormick ’83, P’12, P’16 are the owners of three successful chiropractic clinics in Berwyn, Elverson, and Pottstown, Pa. They are joined in practice by son, Connor McCormick ’12, and daughter, Shannan McCormick. Skyler McCormick ’16 is associating with McCormick Chiropractic in Limerick, Pa., with his aunt and uncle.

 1990s

  • Dawn M. Estelle ’92 and Jesse D. Searfoss ’93 were married October 1, 2023.

  • Deborah Kriebel Haynes ’91 is the executive director of Food for Others, the largest food bank in Northern Virginia.

  • Kristen (Serafino) DiMartino ’95 has been promoted to business development manager for healthcare real estate at NAI Geis Realty Group. August 2024 marked her 10-year anniversary with the Wayne, Pa.-based company.

  • Michael Cyr ’92 has been appointed executive director of the Opportunity Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to economic mobility and improving financial health. Michael is responsible for business development and fundraising efforts.

 2000s

  • Amber (Frame) Stephenson ’03 was promoted to full professor of management in the David D. Reh School of Business at Clarkson University. She is also the director of Healthcare Management Graduate Programs.

  • Trzcinski wedding

    Lori Trzcinski ’09 and Michael Keen were married on May 5, 2024, in New Hope, Pa.

  • Saba Wedding

    Meredith Saba ’03 and Aser Farouk celebrated their marriage on October 21, 2023, in Hazleton, Pa., with many Ursinus alumni in attendance from the classes of 1999-2007.

  • Monyca White

    Monyca White ’00 hiked the Grand Canyon with Team in Training in May 2024, raising over $5,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. 

 2010s

  • Darrah Ellis ’16 earned an MFA in creative writing from Butler University in May 2023. Darrah reports that her husband, Melvin Ellis ’16, is enjoying his career in college nonprofit after seven years of teaching K-12. 

  • An honors thesis written by David Drea ’19 titled, “Bringing Business Back to the Ballpark,” was cited in the book, Save Baseball: A Prescription for the Major Leagues by Larry Hausner.

  • Grace LaDelfa ’19 and Alec Vera ’19 celebrated their marriage on November 11, 2023, at the Philadelphia Cricket Club with 30 Ursinus friends in attendance.

  • Jill Oakman ’15 is a podiatric surgeon currently practicing in northern New Jersey. She welcomed a son, Ares Dante Barra, on May 8, 2023.

  • Leo McCormick ’83, P’12, P’16 and Christine McCormick ’83, P’12, P’16 are the owners of three successful chiropractic clinics in Berwyn, Elverson, and Pottstown, Pa.
