General Residential Accommodations:
Examples of general residential accommodations include but are not limited to wheelchair accessible rooms, air conditioning, a floor with no Emotional Support Animals (ESA), a room with no rug, first floor/elevator access, wheelchair accessible housing, and bathroom proximity needs.
- Complete a Bear Accessibility application.
- All requests/ Bear Accessibility applications for general residential accommodations must be accompanied by a completed healthcare provider form.
- The healthcare provider form must include the student’s diagnosis, their functional impacts, the recommended accommodation(s), and how the recommendation addresses the functional impacts.
Single Room Requests:
- Complete a Bear Accessibility application.
- All requests/Bear Accessibility applications for a single room must be accompanied by a completed healthcare provider form
- The healthcare provider form must include the student’s diagnosis, their functional impacts, the recommended accommodation(s), and how the recommendation addresses the functional impacts.
- Specifically for single room requests, healthcare providers must provide their perspective on the potential effects of isolation on disability-related impacts and information about frequency of counseling, support networks, and coping strategies. It is essential that all information provided is accurate to ensure appropriate placement.
- All single room requests will be reviewed on an individual basis by the Housing Accommodations Review Committee. The committee is comprised of representatives from the Office of Disability and Accessibility, Residential Life, Institute for Student Success, and Wellness Center.
- Single room requests are evaluated on a rolling basis. Individuals who are approved will be contacted via their Ursinus email account and will be assigned an immediate move-in date or will receive information about next steps.
- Ursinus College makes every effort, through our holistic approach, to accommodate students’ disabilities. However, there are incidents in which we will not be able to meet housing preferences. The availability of single housing accommodation is limited and will be assigned on a case-by-case basis.
- Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee singles rooms for every student who applies. We understand individual needs and encourage students to work with Residence Life and the Office of Disability and Access to manage impacts and engage in other supports.
- Students are welcome to reapply at any time throughout their time at Ursinus.
