 Fire Alarm Response

Campus Safety Officers are trained to respond to all fire alarms on campus.  If you are in a building and the alarm sounds, please move quickly and orderly to the nearest exit.  An officer will notify you when it is safe to return to the building.  Drills are held each semester to familiarize the campus community with evacuation procedures and meeting places.  If you are in a building and see evidence of a fire, find the nearest pull station, sound the alarm and then immediately leave the building.  Evidence of a fire includes: sight of smoke or fire, odorous evidence of burning, or concentrations of flammable gases.

Personal Safety Escorts

Personal safety escorts to and from any on-campus location are provided to members of the campus community at any time.  Escorts may be on foot, electric cart, or in safety vehicle.  When available, Campus Safety Officers will provide electric cart or vehicle escorts to community members requiring physical assistance.

Motor Vehicle Assistance

Campus Safety Officers will assist on-campus motorists with disabled vehicles by providing battery jump-starts.  A signed waiver form is required before any vehicle assist occurs.  Officers are not able to fix or  change tires or perform any other type of mechanical service to a vehicle.

Parking Permits

All vehicles on campus must be registered with Campus Safety.  Student and staff vehicles must be registered within 48 hours of arriving on campus.  Visitors may obtain short term parking permits for parking privileges on campus. For a more complete listing of college parking regulations see: Parking Regulations

 Student Room Lockouts

Students who lock themselves out of their rooms should request assistance from their RA.  During evening hours, students should also contact the RA on duty within the building or area.  Should no members of the Residence Life staff be available to help, Campus Safety may be called for assistance.  Campus Safety will not respond to a lockout call in a particular location during the period of time each evening that residence hall staff are on duty in that building (7 p.m.-midnight Sundays through Thursdays and 7 p.m.- 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays).

Students requiring Campus Safety assistance must bring their student ID to the Campus Safety Office in Wismer Hall for identification verification.  Once your identification and room assignment is verified, a Campus Safety Officer will escort you to your room.

Building Access, Keys & ID Cards

Campus Safety Officers maintain a schedule of locking and unlocking all campus buildings based on use, class schedules, special events and safety concerns. Access to institutional facilities is on an as-needed basis and regulated by strict key control or access card procedures.  Access to residence halls and houses is gained through exterior doors which are self-locking. Signs are posted at the entrance to residence halls to remind students to lock the doors. Campus Safety, together with the Office of Student Life hold residence area meetings with students to describe safety procedures and develop safety awareness.

Lost & Found

Campus Safety maintains a lost and found service. If you find any property, please take it to the Campus Safety Office in Wismer Hall.  Items not claimed will be discarded after 30 days.

Property Loss / Damage

The College shall not be directly or indirectly liable during the academic year or during vacations, for loss or theft of any personal property of students or their guests or for damage or destruction of such property by fire, water, or any other natural cause.  All vehicles registered for operation on the campus must have a motor vehicle liability policy.

Any loss or theft should be reported immediately to Campus Safety.
