Looking Back
While I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do after college, I decided to declare a dual major in Communications and Business/Economics as I felt those two majors related to most of the careers I was considering.
Outside of academics, the beginning of freshman year was an adjustment for me because it was the first time I had been so far from home. During my the first semester of my freshman year I had a MCS professor approach me after class one day and ask, “how are you.” I thought she was just generally being nice, but after talking to her she said, “no really how are you?” I remember walking away back to my dorm after this conversation with a sense of comfort. I felt like someone had my back and that was so important to me.
The professors I had throughout my four years at UC were top notch. I was taught to think critically. My ideas were challenged. I was taught and encouraged to problem solve and think outside the box. The lessons I learned and the classes I took, set me up to be successful in the real world. I find myself using lessons I learned from my professors still years after graduation.
Hands-On Experiences
During the summer going in to my Senior year (Summer 2011) I had an internship with The Walt Disney Company. That summer was one of the most critical times of my career. I learned so much and it really kickstarted me into landing my dream full time job with Disney after graduation.
Leadership Opportunities
Freshman year spring 2009 I joined Phi Alpha Psi Sorority. Joining Phi Psi was one of the best decisions of my life! The friends I developed as a sister of Phi Psi are my lifelong friends, we have a bond that is unbreakable and so very special.
Both my Junior and Senior year I was a co-chair of the Ursinus Relay For Life. I was able to learn valuable lessons and develop my leadership, while also giving back to a larger cause.
For three years I was a member of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE, now Enactus). This global organization is dedicated to making the world a better place through entrepreneurial action. My Junior year I was Vice President and my Senior year I was President of the UC SIFE chapter. During this time I learned what it was like to manage a team, develop strategy, be a strategic project manager, and to present to large audiences. I learned all these valuable skills/lessons while engaging in projects that would make our world a better place! My sophomore and junior year our team won regionals and made it to Nationals where we had the opportunity to present our projects in Minnesota.
After Ursinus
I moved to Los Angeles, California about 2 weeks after graduation for a full time position on the Sourcing & Procurement Marketing team at Disney in Burbank, California. Immediately, I felt UC prepared me for the business world I was now living. I felt very fortunate and prepared. I loved working for Disney and was able to quickly start working on very complex global projects. And not only did I love the work I was doing at Disney, I was loving California!
Now I work for Google in Northern California. Google is such an innovative company and I work with some of the most amazing people. I am currently a Senior Category Manager for Marketing & Research Services.
I think about how the things I learned at UC are still relevant in my career and my life daily. From sitting in the classroom learning about business plans or how to run a regression analysis, to just hanging out with my friends in our common areas laughing until we could barely breathe, I cherish all my memories from Ursinus! I am so proud to be an Ursinus College alumna.
