Carlita Favero

Professor of Biology

Carlita B. Favero, Ph.D. is a Professor of Biology and Neuroscience at Ursinus College. She received her B.S. in Biology and Elementary Education from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. She received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience in the lab of James W. Mandell, Ph.D. and did a postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Noelle D. Dwyer, Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. She joined the Ursinus College Biology Department and Neuroscience program in 2010.

Dr. Favero’s lab studies the impact of drinking during pregnancy on brain development using a mammalian model system (mice). She is particularly interested in the effects on brain wiring that is important for sensory processing, attention, and vulnerability to substance use disorders. These studies help us understand the behavioral alterations evident in humans with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

Thanks in part to a grant from Project Pericles, students in Professor of Biology Carlita Favero’s “Developmental Neurobiology” class were able to carry their semester-long projects with local organizations into the summer. 

Ursinus College Presents Exceptional Faculty with Prestigious 2022 Awards

On May 14th, following the official commencement of the Class of 2022, three exceptional faculty members from different fields, Christian Rice, Steven Kolwicz, and Nzadi Keita received awards.

Last year’s winner of the H. Lloyd Jones Jr. Award, Leah Joseph of environmental studies presented the award for distinguished advising and mentoring to Christian Rice, professor of philosophy and dean for civic learning. Carlita Favero of biology, last year’s winner of the Laughlin Award for Distinguished Teaching, presented this years award to Steven Kolwicz of health and exercise physiology. Lastly, professor of chemistry and the ’21 winner of the Laughlin Award for Professional Achievement, presented the 2022 award to poet and professor of English, Nzadi Keita.
