Sigma Gamma Rho

Summary

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was founded on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators. Since its inception, the dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have built and sustained a well-known and well-respected reputation for leading positive change to help uplift the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service.

We are an international sorority with over 100,000 members and 500 chapters globally. It is the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service, civil, and social action. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadership development. Sigma Gamma Rho is also the only D9 sorority founded at a predominantly white institution (PWI).

The Pi Chi Chapter was chartered on April 29, 2005, by 7 trailblazing women at Ursinus College. After 17 years, our chapter became reactivated in November 2022. Sigma Gamma Rho is currently the only active National Panhellenic Council (NPHC/Divine 9) organization at Ursinus College.
