Ursinus College Theater Department Presents “Fun Home”
“Fun Home” is a musical adapted from Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir, which has been a staple of Ursinus’ Common Intellectual Experience. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on April 3, 4, and 5, with an additional performance at 2 p.m. on April 6.
The Ursinus College Theater Department’s second and final show of the semester, “Fun Home,” will hit the stage next week at the Lenfest Theater in the Kalidescope Performing Arts Center. Shows will run April 3-5 at 7:30 p.m. and April 6 at 2 p.m. The show on April 6 will include an ASL Interpreted Performance. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
“Fun Home” is a Tony-Award winning Best Musical adapted from Alison Bechdel’s groundbreaking and acclaimed graphic memoir. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood home life as she attempts to unlock the secrets of her father’s mind and her own heart.
The show is directed by Professor of Theater Domenick Scudera, M.F.A., with musical direction by Professor of Music Holly Hubbs, D.A., and choreography by Professor of Dance Karen Clemente, Ed.D. The production also includes professional theater artists: Lily Fossner (lighting designer), Brian Strachan (costume designer), Meghan Jones (scenic designer), and Michael Kiley (sound designer). The show has been double-cast, and the two casts will alternate performances throughout the run.
“Both casts are excellent and completely comprised of Ursinus students,” said Scudera. “It has been particularly exciting for me to work with this large group of talented performers, as well as with all the other students involved with the production.”
“Fun Home” is a familiar story for Ursinus students, who have read the memoir for years as a part of the Common Intellectual Experience course.
“Although the story is familiar to our campus audience, the innovative way that the musical has been constructed will introduce the text in fresh ways to those who are familiar with it,” Scudera said. “For audience members who have no familiarity with the text, they will find the story and music quite moving and resonant. We look forward to welcoming all audiences, whether they know the original text or not.”
