Neuroscience Professor & Psychology Major Win Inclusion & Equity Awards

On Tuesday, April 26th, VP of Inclusion and Community Engagement, Heather Lobban-Viravong, honored Dr. Jennifer King, professor of Biology & Neuroscience, and Psychology major Sophie Louis ’24 with the 2022 Award for Inclusion & Equity.  

While presenting Dr. King with her award, Dr. Lobban-Viravong shared, “When we send out the call for nominations, we often hope that students will take the opportunity to nominate someone, and this year a student nomination really made the difference for our selection of a faculty member.  Professor King was identified as someone who really cares about making students feel welcomed and included in all her interactions with them and is said to continually demonstrate a strong commitment to student success. She serves as a mentor and friend to many students, but especially those from marginalized communities, and has had a tremendous impact on the Crigler and FUTURE programs.  In their nomination, a student shared that, ‘Dr. King’s dedication to the needs of her students inside and outside the classroom are noble and show her big heart.  Her hard work in preparing and presenting during JBRIDGE inspired me and my fellow students.  She is a great teacher that goes out of her way to make every student feel welcomed and at home at Ursinus.’”

Sophie Louis ’24 was recognized for her work on two separate Inclusive Community Grants, founding UC Possibilities (a student club focused on advocating for and spreading awareness of invisible disabilities), as well as her work as a Peer Mentor and a host of other involvements.
