Department Bids Farewell to Retiring Professors

Current students and alumni joined faculty and staff to say thank you to Jim Baer and Houghton Kane, who both retired at the end of the Spring 2014 semester.

Houghton Kane served many roles at Ursinus, starting out as an adjunct faculty member while he finished law school. He went on to become dean of students, director of leadership studies and coordinator of pre-law advising. In the Politics Department, he taught courses in American government, public administration, pre-law and Latin American politics. Jim Baer was appointed Attorney in Residence in 2011, helping coordinate the new Legal Studies program. Before that time, he worked with Houghton Kane to develop a Moot Court class. In addition to advising pre-law students and developing the alumni law group, Jim taught courses on property and business law. He also worked to establish a mock trial program at Ursinus. At the reception, students and alumni gave stirring testimonials of the impact that Houghton and Jim had on them. The department faculty, staff and students wish them both well.
