English Majors celebrate “Aprille”

Students in ENGL 315: Poetry of Protest in Late Medieval England hosted a “Whan That Aprille Day” Party on March 31.

Ursinus English students observed “Whan That Aprille Day,” a celebration of old, dead, and antiquated language, with readings in Old Norse, Old English, and Middle English.  Students from Dr. Kara McShane’s course “Poetry of Protest in Late Medieval England” hosted and read from John Gower’s Confessio Amantis.

Readers included special guests Peter Luborsky of the Modern Languages department; Joyce Lionarons, medievalist emerita; and ENGL 315 students Fiona Copeland, Daniel Berger, Emily Shue, Rae Hodenfield, Morgan Kentsbeer, Sarah Hojsak, Giselle Horrell, Catherine Urbanski, and Brandon Carey.  After the readings, the audience got a chance to participate in a read-along of the opening to Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales with Dr. McShane.
