Civic engagement is at the heart of what we do.
The Ursinus Center for Advocacy, Responsibility and Engagement (UCARE) introduces students to the needs of the community and provides opportunities to connect the classroom and society. It encourages students to make positive change, and helps develop the skills and motivation to make a difference. From growing produce to tutoring, Ursinus students make an impact in the Collegeville community.
- Place-based, experiential learning beyond campus
- Reciprocal community-campus partnerships
- Publicly-engaged scholarship, leadership, and action
A sampling of Ongoing Volunteer Locations
Among many volunteer sites are Heartland Hospice, ACLAMO in Norristown, America Reads tutoring sites, Montgomery County Victim Services, the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League, Columbia Cottage and Trinity United Church of Christ. The Ursinus Office of Sustainability is actively engaged in the greater community. Last year the Ursinus Organic Farm partnered with the Collegeville Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) as a vendor at the Collegeville Farmers Market, selling freshly harvested produce and talking with community members about a shared love of local agriculture. The offices of Sustainability and Facilities Services, the Environmental Studies program and UCARE participate in the annual Stream Cleanup organized by the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy (PWC).
Become a Bonner Leader
The program is designed to heighten the overall education that students receive by asking them to engage in ongoing service work and helping them develop the experience, skills, knowledge and values necessary to make that work meaningful and lasting. Learn more.
