Experiences outside of the classroom empower you with the skills and confidence to thrive in your career after graduation.
A graduation requirement for all students, the XLP requires students to complete a project in a single semester or summer in one of these categories: (a) an independent research project or a creative project (including but not limited to honors projects); (b) an internship; (c) an approved study abroad program or (d) student teaching.
Gain Resume-Building Experience in and out of the department
- Write for and become an editor with our student-run news: The Grizzly.
- Enhance your media production skills as a member of WVOU, the college’s radio station, and UCSN, the college’s sports broadcast network.
- Become a Fellow in the Center for Writing and Speaking and get paid to help fellow students draft and revise writing projects and oral presentations.
- Join The Bear Network and shadow Ursinus alumni through Career and Professional Development’s externship program.
- Pitch an idea and test your oratory talents by participating in the Bear Innovation competition.
Participate in The Digital Spark program—an immersive program designed specifically for innovative students looking to assist local businesses to execute a focused digital marketing project, that will help both the businesses and the intern grow. - Gain research experience by working alongside a faculty member over the summer doing one-on-one honors-level research.
- Research, prepare, and implement a communications campaign for your club or organization.
Gain Practical Experience
Completing an internship fulfills the college’s XLP (Experiential Learning Project) core requirement, and is a good way for majors to get practical experience in the field. You are permitted to complete two MCS internships for college credit. Following is a sampling of MCS student internship placements in recent few years:
